Frequently Asked Questions

Poverty and famine in Kenya pose complex challenges that raise numerous questions. While we cannot answer all of them, we have compiled a selection of frequently asked questions. We also provide answers to key concerns about our organization, including information on donation receipts, memberships, founding members, and much more.

Our goal is to ensure transparency and provide insight into the work of our organization. Through these answers, we hope to deepen understanding of the complex issues of poverty and famine while also informing people about how our organization can make a positive contribution.

  • Who is behind the New Roots association?

Eight friends from Munich founded the association in March 2022. Jenny, Marlene, Gina, Alex P., Alex H., Sebastian, Xander, and Adrian are the founding members of New Roots eV.

  • How does New Roots finance itself?

We rely on donations to maintain the project and cover the ongoing costs of providing for the community. Since the trust of our donors is very important to us, we will provide the necessary transparency in this regard.

  • How can I become a member?

You can become a New Roots member directly here on the website under 'Become a Supporter Now.' This option allows you to support us with regular donations, so that the children and those in need in the community can benefit from our project in the long term.

  • Where is the project?

In Watamu, Kenya. About 100 km north of Mombasa on the Kenyan coast.

  • Do I receive a donation receipt (donation certificate) for donations?

Yes. If you donate directly to our association's account, please include your address in the intended use, so we can send you the donation receipt directly. You will receive receipts for donations via PayPal and Betterplace automatically from the respective providers.

  • How big is the property?

4200 square meters. Enough space to accommodate many activities.

  • What do local people eat?

We mainly serve traditional Kenyan dishes such as ugali (corn dough) and githeri with rice (bean stew), etc. We also offer plenty of fruit and vegetables to provide the children and adults with important natural vitamins.

  • Who cooks for the community?

We've built a kitchen on our property where our chef, Tommy, prepares food for the community. The ingredients for a varied diet will be stored in sufficient quantities in the on-site storage facility. We'll also be creating a garden bed for growing fruit and vegetables.
